How can neuropathic pain be treated?

Well, medication is the primary mainstream healthcare treatment strategy for neuropathic pain (amitriptyline, gabapentin, pregabalin, tramadol) but tolerance may develop during the treatment period leading to the need for extra dosage with a potential for increased side effects.

Is nerve regeneration possible?

For the science buffs of you out there, other clinical studies of the effects of Low level laser therapy on injured nerves have revealed an improvement in nerve function and capacity for myelin production. Low level laser therapy has also been shown to be effective for promoting axonal growth in injured nerves.

Surely that is futuristic nonsense, I hear you say! Well no, sensory nerves (those that sense temperature or let us know we are being touched) are known to have regenerative capabilities and motor nerves (those that are allowing me to move my hands when typing this Blog) can regenerate depending on their location and severity of injury.

Timing is important though, as much as location, and there is a critical period for regeneration. A muscle left too long without nerve fibre connections can lose its regenerative ability.

So back to nerve pain. People often attend clinic for nerve pain in their legs or back and ask how on earth can it be resolved?

K-Laser is a professional medical device and a leading exponent of Low level laser therapy and is one of the only devices on the market capable of penetrating through body’s tissues to have an effect upon nerves that are located deep within the anatomy.

As an osteopath and Allied Health Professional, I have a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and I use Low level laser therapy to target radiculopathy (pain originating from the spinal nerve roots, like sciatica) or localised pain in the peripheral nervous system (nerves that are compressed or impinged along their neuromuscular pathways, like those in the legs, hands, or feet).

I invite you to book a consultation to find out how Low level laser therapy can help you towards relieving your pain and returning to a more comfortable life.
