There is good reason why combining treatments works so effectively for pain relief: the intention is to stimulate various biochemical reactions in the body to enhance the potential of a strong healing response.

My services include medical acupuncture, osteopathy, massage and K-Laser therapy… All contribute to hastening a patient’s recovery from injuries and conditions when used in combination.

Looking at the various treatments we can see why they compliment each other well.

Why Combi-treatments work

Medical acupuncture creates minor injuries and the body responds to that, then osteopathy and massage enhance blood flow and correct any postural issues, before the K-Laser is then used to expedite a patient’s recovery at a cellular level within body tissues.

You might ask which to chose for your ailment? Should I have all of them – should I only have a couple? Don’t worry, we can discuss and decide this in your first consultation. You might have all of them, you might just receive a couple, it is very flexible.

How does Medical Acupuncture work?

With Acupuncture needling there is a primary immune response (histamine) located immediately in any needled area. Following the retention of that needle in the area for between 5 & 15 minutes, a whole host of other biochemicals arrive to the needled site.

  1. Neutrophils, the most abundant types of white blood cell, rapidly travel to injury sites.
  2. Macrophages also arrive and are a specialised white blood cell that detects, engulfs, and destroys cellular debris – essential for homeostasis and tissue repair.
  3. Interleukins regulate immune responses, inflammation, and cell growth.
  4. Prostaglandins also mediate immune response and are one of many biochemicals arriving at a needle site.

Some studies identify varying amounts of biochemical presence (20-80) in various different injury sites (muscles / tendons / ligaments / bones). Acupuncture needle insertions close to or into those body areas facilitates this strong biochemical response in order to hasten healing.

And why is that important?

With acute phase injuries, the needling can ease pain via its effect on pain gateway perception in the brain. Sometimes electro-acupuncture is used in the same way that TENS machines work, other times just a simple single acupuncture needle will be inserted into the injury site. Both methods are intended to ease pain and sooth muscular spasms.

With chronic issues that haven’t yet resolved, more than one needle in the area reinvigorates any failed healing leading towards a fuller recovery. This is important for old injuries and for any more chronic degenerative inflammatory conditions, like arthritis.

How Osteopathy and soft tissue Sports Massage work

By looking at a person’s injuries, physical tensions, and postural patterns, an osteopath decides upon a treatment to best release tension and help the body into a better potential for healing.

This includes any method that enhances blood into areas that may have compromised flow and is also used to improve lymphatic drainage in order to reduce swelling.

Once these fluids dynamics have changed then the body may be ready to have some bones ‘reset’ or to receive gentle skeletal articulations and muscle stretches to release skeletal restrictions.

Why is that important?

The biomechanical system needs to work optimally to avoid injury and discomfort; inflammation is a major influence in the creation of diseased states no matter what age we are. Blood and lymph need to flow smoothly to deliver fresh nutrients to nourish areas and to remove waste products in the body’s systems. A better environment in any diseased or injured area leads to an improved potential for it to heal.

How does K-Laser treatment work?

K-Laser is an advanced therapeutic medical laser system. Using specific wavelengths of light, the K Laser uses evidence-based clinical protocols to stimulate molecules in the body’s tissues to hasten recovery.

K-Laser is a safe and non-invasive therapeutic treatment that facilitates essential changes to cells in muscles, tendons, bone, ligaments, fascia and other body tissues.

Enhancing the supply of oxygenated blood and nutrients and the removal of waste products, it interacts with mitochondria within cells that accelerate the production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). ATP is “the fuel of life” for cellular recovery and also has the function of alleviating pain signals within the central and peripheral nervous systems.

Why is that important?

Metabolic activity occurs at its own using pace, faster when younger and slower when older, and increased production of ATP facilitates improved cellular function leading to enhanced health benefits.

K-Laser treatments don’t do anything to the body that the body doesn’t naturally do, they work in a naturopathic way leading to quicker recovery and are a great alternative to surgical procedures or long-term medication use.

Does a Combi-treatment it cost more?

No, I just charge a flat fee for a 40 minute appointment and I will check for your consent each time about which therapy I will be using and why. Everyone done to combine treatments can be fitted comfortably within a forty minutes treatment.

In addition, I can often suggest (to some patients) that a combination course of medical acupuncture and K-Laser might be more suitable in acute injury recovery or for chronic degenerative conditions like arthritis. These appointments are simply 20 minutes long, two a week, for 3-6 weeks. See K-Laser pricing packages.
