What is carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is when the median nerve is compressed underneath a fibrous tissue, known as the transverse carpal ligament, as it enters into the palm. This causes pain, tingling, and numbness. Often worsening at nighttime, this syndrome is considered as being the most common nerve entrapment in the upper limb (the arm).

How do you fix a carpal tunnel?

Medication is the primary mainstream healthcare treatment strategy for neuropathic pain (amitriptyline, gabapentin, pregabalin, tramadol) but tolerance may develop during the treatment period leading to the need for extra dosage with a potential for increased side effects. Oral anti-inflammatory medications are often also prescribed or corticosteroid injections may be considered should the condition not resolve.

As a final solution, surgery may be considered and the transverse carpal ligament is cut to create more space within the carpal tunnel.

What causes the carpal tunnel to flare-up?

Flare-ups are caused by repetitive wrist and hand movements or by certain medical conditions, like diabetes, pregnancy, rheumatoid arthritis, thereby creating an increased pressure from inflammation. Biochemicals called “prostaglandins” become more present in the carpal tunnel area leading to pain and inflammation and these also affect the regulation of blow flow and muscle contraction potentials.

Does Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) work on carpal tunnel ?

K-Laser is a professional low level laser therapy medical device that will counteract the effects of prostaglandins because its primary aims are to,

  • Reduce Pain
  • Improve oxygenated blood flow to areas
  • Drive cellular production of ATP to hasten repair and recovery
  • Help the body to process and reduce inflammation
  • Reduce the formation of scar tissue

Can I fix a carpal tunnel at home?

You can do some things to help ease symptoms, resting, avoiding repetitive activities, applying ice or using anti-inflammatory medications, or wearing a wrist brace, but essentially the answer is ‘no’. Not if the condition is persistent.
